As one of those "young'ens" mentioned by David Steward, I don't foresee
business cards disappearing anytime soon. Even in tech industry laden
Austin, TX. Among us young'uns they are still seen as a status symbol,
particularly if they are provided by your employer.
It definitely adds gravity to a transaction when a business card is
presented by or to a fellow Millennial. I suppose it serves as a
reinforcement of the exchange and a sort of test to see if you are
committed enough to preserve the card and/or transcribe the information
into your preferred electronic format.
Even among friends, when asked for contact information throwing a
business card out is the social equivalent of throwing down the gauntlet.
I could go on and on about the social rites of Millennials...
