I remember playing with Matchbox cars.  Corgi Toys also made amazing cars and trucks.  But when the first Hot Wheels came out we (grade school boys) were drooling at the original series.  And they made tracks so you could race them!  Amazing looks and real performance -- it was a double threat.  And there were a few that were so difficult to find like the Beatnik Bandit.

I wanted the fire truck so badly that I collected newspaper to sell at the local recycler.  I'm sure by the time my dad got done helping me load all of that and delivering it to the vendor it was more expensive then if he had just bought it for me.  But I earned the money and went to Kmart.  It even had little plastic ladders that detached.

Hot Wheels were so cool.
