Good day Josh. The proverbial it depends. If you have people using the chat for business then it will depend on what type of business. Example trading information that is exchanged via chat will have a fairly lengthy time period. There is no easy way to separate chatter from business on those.

Subject: Chat Logs

How long do you keep chat logs, aka Conversation History, for Lync/Skype for business/Jabber? Is anyone instructing users to "classify if it's a record, otherwise it's transitory and kept for 12 months" or something similar?

Josh Komarek, CRM
