Amy,

Since your company is incorprated in Oregon you probably need to first
review their laws and regulations as a starting point -
http://www.oregonlaws.org/oregon_revised_statutes is a source. If
your operations are outside of Oregon you'll need to go each state's
code and do the same. In addition you will need to review the Federal
Code of Regulation (http://www.ecfr.gov/) as well as the US Code for
any regulations and statutes that may affect your business. If your
company has a membership with an industry advocate (e.g. American
Council of Life Insurers for insurance) you might check and see if
they have recordkeeping resources.

As Gary points out you should reach out to others in your industry for
support. You might want to include a signature block so listserve
members know the company you work for.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to conduct research other than
doing it. I recently updated my company's retention schedule (finance
and insurance) and took me almost six months. But it was worth the
effort.

And there may be others that apply specifically to the industry you are in. You might tell us your industry, and likely there are list members who work for companies in the same industry who can point you in the right direction for finding regs that apply to you.
