Hugh, I appreciate your post on this topic.  Your points were clear, valid, and presented in an approachable manner.

One quote from your message is "Twenty-five years ago, the RM could go into the interview knowing what they expected your skill sets to be."  I want to disagree.  I'm not sure that many employers ever understood what RIM was supposed to be much less how to interview a candidate for the position.  But I also want to agree with your premise.  By contrast with today it was much clearer 25 years ago.  Heck, I'll even say it was clearer 10 years ago!  The contrast simply demonstrates that you are so right.  What do you suppose the interviewer would say if an interviewee asked this in the interview?  "So, I understand you have this opening and it clearly states the title of the position along with qualifications.  Can you tell me what a successful program will look like in a year?  Five years?  I just want to know how you will measure my progress and success when I am hired into this opportunity."
