Andrew,

Actually, I am very politely hinting at the fact that ISO 16175 was obsolete before its publication, lacks consistency across its parts, with its conceptual part 1 written from rather narrow archival perspective. It doesn’t mean however that you can’t use it at least partially, since many requirements are still valid.

As for geography and time … Personally, I am willing to use any document that can help me with certain topic. From time to time I even return to good old AS 4390 which is far more detailed and has wider scope than its successor ISO 15489 :)

At ISO level, ISO 16175 is not an official compliance specifications for ISO 15489 (don’t know about Australia). There are many ways to comply with high-level principles set in ISO 15489, and the specifications like ISO 16175 is only one of them.

With my best wishes,
Natasha

Thanks Fred and Natasha

Natasha - It depends on your geographical location. MoReq doesn't get much discussion where I am (Australia) but vendors like to say their product 'complies with ISO 15489'. Are you saying that ISO 16175 is really now obsolete, or just the original ICA Standard on which it was based?

Andrew
