The Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety Monday authorized the
archiving of city social media streams.

Brad Speidel, the city's information technology director, said the action
was prompted by a lawsuit filed earlier this year against the city of of
Beech Grove over the deletion of critical comments from the Facebook page
of the Indianapolis suburb's police department.

Archiving will allow the city to prove exactly what was said, and when it
was said, and thus preserve discussion threads that may be modified by
future posts.
