No single organization should have the authority to unilaterally declare an
entire market dead. Just shouldn't happen.

That said, I believe this article posted by Gartner earlier this morning
may prove to be a significant milestone in records management:
http://gtnr.it/2iLcld0

This inevitable move to 'content services' (which, frankly, has been
going on for several years now) will have a significant effect on records
management practices because it frees us from the failed notion that we
must manage our records in a single, centralized repository and it also
allows us to move away from the idea of shrink-wrapped records management
'applications' to a more open framework that implements customized (often
automated) records management services inside of all our enterprise
information processes.

This shift has been a long-time coming and should not go unnoticed.
