Before making the executive decision about keeping records indefinitely 
you might want to find out whether or not your company has a retention 
schedule and then consult with your business and Legal groups to get their 
approval.

As others have said it is not in the companies best interest to keep 
information indefinitely.  Even if you are not going to destroy the 
information anytime in the near future I would recommend building in the 
metadata and classifying the information upfront so when you decide to 
start destroying the information it has the proper classification so you can 
easily pick out the data that is eligible for destruction.
