Well, now that everyone has read my question about the retention of the
retention schedules, let me introduce myself.

I work for Safeway's Records Department (or whatever we're calling
ourselves...I think we're going to come up with something formally). If
you know Blake Richardson (and it seems that a lot of people do!), he's
the Records Manager here.

I have my MLS from Syracuse University, but I took courses like
Information Architecture for the WWW, and a course in database
administration, as well as a beginning course in Network Architecture,
so I didn't take all the 'typical' library courses. I lived in
Rochester, NY for my whole life, and then my hubby, my 8-mo old son (at
the time), and I moved to Phoenix in January, 2006. I started here in
March 2006...I had worked with records before as a secretary/file clerk
and also as an end user, but not as a records management professional.

After Blake came on board in September, I started learning more and more
about the records and information profession...not just as a job, but as
a career. Blake likes to teach, and I like to learn, so it's a good
combination. :-) I was off around the holidays on maternity leave,
but when I got back, we really started working on the huge undertaking
of rolling out our records management software enterprise-wide, and
we're right in the middle of it (hence, the question about the changing
retention schedule).

When I was in grad school, I was part of ALA, MLA, and SLA (that's the
American Library Association, Medical Library Association, and Special
Library Association), and I wanted to be a cataloger, but I didn't get
any jobs in the Rochester area. I think that my job now is so broad and
diverse, that it's really never going to be boring, and this is the
first job I've held where it is what I make of it.

Now, I'll go back to reading all of the great feedback I've received on
the retention schedules!
