but in that case they are not  backup tapes. Backup tapes are created for
one purpose only and that is for business continuity. Companies got into
trouble because backup tapes were being retained beyond their cycle time.

I don't disagree that some financial data is retained on mag media, but it
is loaded in such a manner for that purpose. If it is a tape retained for
retention purposes then call it that, but don't say that a backup tape is
retained for retention purposes. IT is just now learning the difference
