 STEVE DENNING - Leadership through Storytelling

Steve Denning, Oxford educated lawyer and organizational storyteller
extraordinaire, was the Program Director, Knowledge Management at the
World Bank from 1996 to 2000.  In November 2000, he was selected one of
the world's ten Most Admired Knowledge Leaders (Teleos).  He now works
with organizations (including Fortune 500 companies) in the U.S.,
Europe, Asia and Australia on knowledge management and organizational
storytelling.  Steve's latest book, The Secret Language of Leadership:
How Leaders Inspire Action Through Narrative (Jossey-Bass, October 2007)
is a comprehensive guide to transformational leadership, particularly
how to use narrative intelligence to inspire enduring enthusiasm in any

 MICHAEL L. MILLER, PhD, CRM, CA - "But We Followed the Directions
Exactly . . . Right Turns and Wrong Turns with the FBI's Virtual Case
File"

"On paper we did everything correctly, yet the application development
process failed to produce the desired product; a RIM perspective on a
well-planned system that didn't work"

Michael L. Miller is Director of the Records Management Practice for
Transportation and Security Solutions of Lockheed Martin, helping
organizations solve problems in that arising in transition from paper to
electronic recordkeeping. Prior experience of 30 years stints with the
National Archives and Records Administration (as Director, Modern
Records Program), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (as Chief, Records
Automation Section) and the Environmental Protection Agency (as National
Program Manager for Records.  He also teaches records management and
electronic records management for the library/archives/RM program at
University of Maryland.  

 

 

 SUSAN MCKINNEY, CRM - "The 3 C's of Records Management: Collaboration,
Cooperation and Communication" 

"The days of being able to exist in an organization without working
together with other divisions has passed.  More and more, organizations
are expecting collaboration within the business sections in order to get
things done and compete in the new economy.  It is no longer feasible to
exist within the organization in a vacuum.  This session will discuss
how RIM must use Collaboration, Cooperation and Communication in the
workplace."

Susan McKinney, CRM has been the Director of Records and Information
Management at the University of Minnesota since December, 1995.  Prior
to that, she had been the Director of Records Management at the
University of Florida for 10 years.  She has also worked for the Balch
Institute for Ethnic Studies and Seton Hall University.  Susan received
her Master of Arts in History with an Archival, Museum and Editing
Studies concentration from Duquesne University, and her CRM in 1993.  

She also serves as owner/host of the Records Management Listserv, and is
currently the Chair of the Board of ARMA International.

 

Brett Don, CIO, Dickstein Shapiro LLP and Douglas S. Smith, Records
Manager, Wiley Rein LLP - "Role Setting for Collaborative Success, a
case study in IT/RIM collaboration" 

Using case study results from their work at Wiley Rein LLP, Brett and
Doug will present a model for successful partnership between IT and RIM.
By defining roles, they were able to develop, engineer and implement
many successful improvements to information management at Wiley Rein
LLP.  

Brett Don is currently the CIO of Dickstein Shapiro LLP.  He has worked
in the information technology field for over 18 years as both an
executive within law firms and as a consultant.  He was the CIO at Wiley
Rein LLP for over 7 years implementing a complete overhaul of the firm's
computer platform.  

Doug Smith is currently the Records Manager at Wiley Rein LLP.  He has
worked in the information management field for over 20 years.  First as
a Legal Assistant and later as a Records Manager.  Doug has managed
document collections for many large litigation cases, later managing the
records and information for the entire law firm, Wiley Rein LLP.

 

Jeff Ritter - "Navigating to the Horizon: Using Visual Collaboration
Tools to Lead and Tell Your Story"

Using a Case Study i.e. a story, this presentation will show how visual
mapping tools can be used by records professionals and can provide
leadership and knowledge in project assessment, planning and execution.
These tools can be brought to the table as a way to both communicate and
lead in the execution of collaborative projects. Jeffrey Ritter, lawyer
and author, is CEO of Waters Edge; he is also the creator of
CastleQuest, which delivers live online training and electronic
collaboration tools to records management professionals, located at
