I am in full agreement with Doug - there is a time, place and degree for
everything...and a little decorum (and courtesy) goes a LONG way, in my
book.....

Subject: Re: Product Opinion Requested - Now vendor ads

Can vendors "use" the ListServ? I think that many of us already do.
However, most observe the same sort of behavior on the ListServ that we
do if we are attending an ARMA meeting. In other words, most vendors on
the ListServ will let people know for whom they work, and will typically
contact individuals off-line when those see someone seeking advice and
when the vendors are promoting their products and services. Very few
have engaged in posts that promote their firm, posts that promote their
specific products and services.

That behavior has allowed RIM practitioners to focus on the issues of
concern to them, and has allowed for and promoted a free flow of
questions, responses, issues, etc. I would worry about the fate of any
ListServ that allowed itself to become a forum for advertising, since it
would inevitably force practitioners off of this ListServ, and leave the
remaining vendors advertising themselves to each other.

I know of one vendor that absolutely will not allow its employees to
post anything this ListServ, despite perhaps being tempted to do so.

Are you saying that vendors can't use the ListServ?
