If I had a nickel for every .pst that we've had that puked...well it is just not a good idea to save email off the system and on to your local hard drive. I'd way rather see you build a set of folders in your inbox. 
 
You can use a free download of a product like X1 to search for and move email in bulk to a "subject" file in your inbox. Not very sophisticated, but hey it works in a pinch.
 
Better to invest in an email archiving system.
