Looks like a good opportunity for ARMA to "recruit" some professional
RIM personnel into the association.

I disagree that ARMA membership should be a requirement to be a CRM.
The Institute of Certified Records Managers was chartered independent of
both the American Records Management Association and the Association of
Records Executives and Administrators. (both associations merged into
the current ARMA, Int. in 1975 after creation of the ICRM) The ICRM was
created as a stand-alone organization expressly to provide the
credential authority autonomy from political persuasion and financial
manipulation. This works well for the RIM profession. I have in the
past and will continue to fight tooth and nail if necessary to keep the
ICRM's management and charter independent.

I do like Pilar's dedication to our profession and to ARMA. I share
that dedication, and salute her accomplishments.

Best regards, Steve

Congratulations to all! This is a fabulous achievement!

However, I can't help but comment on the fact that I continue to be
amazed when not all CRMs are members of ARMA. When I see a new CRM
from
southern California, I want to be certain to get an announcement in
our
local ARMA chapter's newsletter. There are two new CRMs in southern
California, but only one is a member of ARMA (and, as a point of
interest, the one who is a member, does not belong to any chapter).
For
my own curiosity, I checked all the new CRMs, and noted that of the 24
names in the list, 4 were not in ARMA's membership roster.

I don't want to get into a debate about the merits (or down sides) of
chapter membership, but I do believe that membership in ARMA
International should be required for CRMs. Getting the CRM isn't
easy,
and represents an investment in one's own career and a commitment to
the
profession as a whole. Maintaining the CRM requires that same ongoing
commitment, and ARMA is a key part of that.

(This should spur some dialogue!)
