Colleagues,
I had to share Larry Medina's comments about the SAA Glossary with the author (and my long-time friend), Richard Pearce-Moses. He asked me to post the following on the List Serve:
Paul,
Thanks for sharing this with me. It's nice to know that I spent five years of my life working on something that people find useful. Being called the "go to source" is very flattering.
I have been collecting additional terms and making notes about existing entries since I sent the final text to SAA for publication. I plan to begin serious work on a new edition that will incorporate those changes (and other research) in the next few months.
I very much appreciate comments, corrections, terms, or other suggestions to improve the work. Such comments from the records management community would be very welcome. As I am not a records manager, I don't always have the knowledge or perspective necessary to get those terms right.
For example, reading the note from Larry Medina, I checked the entries for records manager and archivist. I see that the Glossary notes that archivists often undertake records management duties, but I don't see a corresponding statement that records managers are often responsible for archives. I've made a note to correct that.
