Hi Amber - if your firm's HR manager is a member of SHRM, that may be helpful for HR-specific records as well.

That said, there are many regulations that will apply to your firm's business/admin records beyond just HR topics, so you'll want to decide how you will do that research as well. I've often seen firms assign an associate with not much on their plate to do the legal research for a retention schedule, however I caution you that some of the laws/rules can be elusive if you aren't really sure what you're looking for.

ARMA International has many resources that may assist with your efforts, as well as the ABA and your firm's loss prevention insurance provider. Also, ILTA can be a helpful resource if your firm is a member (ask your IT manager - he/she will know if your firm is a member).

Another option is to consider hiring a RM consultant to develop your schedule for you, or to at least advise you on the process.

Hope that is helpful, and good luck with your project!

Julie
