Since you are discussing drawings and you work for an engineering firm, I'm going to guess that you have aperture cards. As Alice noted, do you have a duplicate copy? Since these are "priceless", I'm guessing not. (Not unusual for aperture cards.) In terms of insurance value, perhaps the best way to value them would be the cost to recreate the drawings, which, given your company's history, would be in the millions, if recreating them would even be possible.

I would strongly advise you to reconsider shipping them anywhere. If they are truly that valuable, you really do not want to trust them to UPS. UPS does a great job, but it seems like the stuff with the most value always seems to get lost. In this day and age, it is certainly not unusual for an imaging vendor to have the capability to bring equipment to your office. That said, the cost will be much higher than shipping them to a production facility. This is not the sort of project that your firm can afford to do on the cheap.

And honestly, if your vendor has no idea of how to properly insure the drawings, I think you need to consider your use of them. What happens if their facility burns down while your microfilm is on site?
