Towns buried under public records requests - NorthJersey.com

Ten years after state lawmakers passed the Open Public Records Act to make
government more transparent, municipal clerks across North Jersey say the
law has created unintended consequences at the expense of other
taxpayer-funded services.

They say they are being buried in requests — some frivolous, others
motivated by profit — for thousands of documents, and that complying with
the law is causing routine services, like issuing licenses and permits, to
take longer.
