Hi Steve,

There's a German company called Hänel (or Haenel) Storage Systems. Hänel has a US establishment but, in addition, they have at least one US company as a dealer: Donnegan Systems (http://www.donnegan.com/Automated_Storage_Products.html).

Hänel offers several different powered equipment lines:

The LeanLift (http://www.haenel.us/us/en/Products/Lean-Lift%C2%AE.html) and the Rotomat Storage Carousel (http://www.haenel.us/us/en/Products/Rotomat%C2%AE-storage-carousel.html) -- these are "industrial-scale" items -- and an "office" solution, the Rotomat office carousel (http://www.haenel.us/us/en/Products/Rotomat%C2%AE-office-carousel.html).

I have not used either, but did research them some years ago as a large-scale powered storage system for a new archive.

There's also a French company called Electroclass, but my impression is they only do business in the European Union (but I could be mistaken). See http://www.electroclass.com/en/.

As you noted, the Kardex/Remstar systems are still going strong.....

Since you have existing equipment of the sort, I will assume you know about the floor loading issues with this type of equipment when used for the storage of very high-density materials, such as microforms.

Best of luck!

Fred
