Data retention, describes the continued storage of an organisation’s data
for compliance or business reasons. Industry standards and legislation may
mandate long-term data retention, such as 7-year or 10-year retention.

With different solutions and providers recommending their own retention
periods, it can be difficult to know what is correct for your organisation.
Retention can often have a direct effect on the cost of a solution due to a
need for additional storage.
