Subject: Re: [RM] certificate vs certification AND question about RM
classes

No need to apologize Kirsten; I thought that is what you
meant. I did want to make a distinction in case there are
some listserv folks out there who may not have a clear
understanding.

Carol's posting provided a good synopsis.

Hello all,

Just wanted to respond to Steve's note about the difference between
certificate and certification - I agree absolutely and I apologize for
not
being clear. When I wrote (typed) certificate/certification I actually
was
thinking of the CRM designation vs the certificates one can obtain
from
various institutions. Sloppy punctuation use!

In response to Emma - I have taken several courses at University of
Toronto's PLC program. I didn't take all of the RM courses but I did
take
"Records Management Software" which I found useful and informative.

My coworker who was hired on to support me when I first started here
began
in her position knowing absolutely nothing about RM but has since
taken
both the Fundamentals as well as the RM Practice course from the U of
T
PLC program. She learned a lot from those two courses and has gone
from
simply filling more of an administrative role to being my equal in the
job.

Even better, I was just looking at the PLC website (
http://www.plc.fis.utoronto.ca/) and they are now offering the RM
Practice
course on-line. Before you could take the fundamentals on-line but not
the
second.

As on-line courses go the instructors are excellent and there is quite
a
lot of interaction between students using several different means of
communications.

Good luck in your studies Emma!

regards,
Kirsten

"Certificate" and "certification" are two very different things.

Hello all,

Is there such as thing as a university/college granting a degree vs. a
certificate for records management?

I only know of certificate/certification programs for records
management
as opposed to degree granting institutions. The PLC program at
