I asked in the middle of the ARMA Conference for some Case Studies and
surprise, there was no response from our esteemed list. So I will ask
again now that we are all back.

I am looking for examples of where companies failed due to a loss of
their records in a fire, flood, explosion or any loss.

I am looking for examples of where companies had these disasters and
survived due to a proper plan of storing their records in multiple
locations or medias.

I am looking for an example where solid records management programs
saved the organization from a major loss due to litigation, government
requests to produce records, etc. After all, we constantly talk about
retention periods, there should be some examples where complying with
the requirements is good and failing to comply is bad.

I have tried to look at the big examples and when you track back the
Quote "Over 50% of the companies that did not have back up records
offsite, failed after a catastrophic event." While this could be true
or is likely to be true, there is no data base that I can find that
proves that. Too many quotes are just sales hyperbole. So simple
cases that are factual are the best way to understand how records
management and business continuity works to protect organizations.

This is a simple valuation of what records management is all about,
beyond the finding a file when someone needs it. Computers devalue
that ability somewhat as computer searching is faster. But making sure
all the files are accounted for................. the computer does not
have the brains to do that.
