Greetings!
I have been following this listserv for quite awhile and find it to be very helpful and full of interesting and informative topics. I am new to the records management profession and look forward to participating in the dialogue.

I am tasked with developing a vital records inventory for a large utility company in Georgia; the inventory will also include confidential records. I'm planning to use a records survey to gather the information. A liaison from each department will be asked to complete the online survey to list the records used for their business unit(s).

Here's the issue: we have over 250 departments across the state. We can narrow it down a bit since some groups have multiple locations, hence duplication. The challenge I'm faced with is how to reduce the number of survey participants without leaving any group out.

Should we take a phased approach, surveying a few groups at a time? Survey each group? I'm interested in hearing your experiences, things to consider, suggestions or comments. Thanks for sharing.
