NixoNARA | Richard Nixon, the National Archives and Records
Administration (NARA), history, records
Why do archivsts, records managers, historians, and other researchers
watch what the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
does with Richard Nixon’s records? Because NARA has faced many
challenges in the past. The timeline shows a story that started
brightly for the Archives, with a sense of new responsibilities, but
then turned cloudy at times. At its core, the Nixon records story is
about reputations–individual and institutional. It is a story of
NARA’s reputation as a federal agency with a challenging mission, the
reputations of its officials and staff, and yes, that of Richard
Nixon.
