NARA is recruiting for 2 Archives Specialists, (Sr. Records Analysts) GS-to join 
the Business Development Branch of Agency Services located in College Park, 
MD.

These Archives Specialists will safeguard the records of the Federal 
Government by providing direct assistance to Federal agencies in the 
management of their records in all formats and media.

The vacancies are open from Monday 8/22/11 – Friday 9/2/11 and are open to

Serves as a technical expert regarding records management issues.  Provides 
guidance and technical assistance to agencies on records creation, 
management, and disposition.  Visits, consults, and works with officials in 
assigned agencies or geographic areas to encourage and stimulate interest in 
effective records management.  Analyzes and reviews proposals for changes in 
records management policies, guidance, processes, and procedures.  Plans 
and conducts studies to improve records management programs and develop 
solutions to particular problems encountered.  

Advises NARA staff and Federal agency personnel in the records management 
requirements associated with the development of electronic record keeping 
systems.  Analyzes systems documentation and other background material, 
and provides advice on designing electronic systems that meet requirements.  
Provides assistance to other NARA personnel regarding the appraisal and 
disposition of electronic records, to include participating in the development of 
plans for staff training.

Within the framework of NARA’s appraisal review and concurrence process, 
works with appraisers of Federal records in all media in the course of reviewing 
records disposition schedules, participating in the review of appraisals by other 
offices, and/or working with Federal agencies to develop schedules.  Records 
are appraised to determine their proper disposition, including whether records 
have or will continue to have sufficient value to warrant preservation.

Analyzes, appraises, and evaluates agency requests for disposition authority 
and offers of records to transfer to NARA custody.  Reviews pending records 
disposition schedules and related appraisals prepared by other NARA staff. 

Participates in outreach activities to increase knowledge about and 
implementation of Federal records and information management policies and 
practices.  Plans and conducts workshops, seminars, and conferences 
designed to guide and encourage agency officials in improving their records 
management programs.  Promotes the exchange of information about 
successful records management methods among agencies.
