On September 5th I will be in Chicago. I will be meeting with the FIRELOCK Network of Offsite Media Vaulting Service Providers.

We will be talking about how best to serve regional and national accounts regarding media storage, electronic records management, changing technologies. Issues of offering evaulting and proprietary Cloud storage, litigation support, electronic discovery, and how the rise of new multi-city "Investment Oriented" records centers will impact the world of records storage and also the commoditizing of Electronic Records Management by the BIG Data guys.

If you have some thoughts on any of those issues, send me an email; or, if you live in Chicago and would like to provide some input, let me know. We will meet at the Hyatt O'Hare for four hours of strategic planning. Or you could stop by and I'll buy you a drink.

If we have any records managers from Health Organizations, we are trying to figure it out? Medical Imaging is moving primarily to PACS (Picture Archiving Computer System) and they use a format called DICOM. Will the same issues plague us there as occurred in regular BIG Data? Lack of communication between medical systems, changing software and hardware leaving records behind. Mammograms need a history to be effective. Failure to maintain the technology could lead to terrible consequences. Are the hospitals even bringing the records management into the equation. My son is a radiologist and he reads the images and they go into the PACS and he no longer knows what happens to it? I wonder if this is one of those Digits to Dust storms about to happen?
