temporary (US) federal records.  

Pursuant to 36 CFR 1226.26
(http://www.archives.gov/about/regulations/part-1226.html#1226.26),
Agencies, after obtaining written approval from NARA, can donating records
eligible for disposal to an appropriate person, organization, institution,
corporation, or government (including a foreign government) that has
requested them.

Rikki makes an excellent point. when we speak of disposition most corporate
records managers automatically think of destruction since most companies
don't have an archives to which business records are transferred.

Disposition can take two forms - destruction or retention for
historical/archival purposes
