We use an application similar to PeopleSoft - SAP. We consider each object to be covered by the retention and disposition schedule. That includes all the tables of data that is used to compile the object. As already pointed out, databases themselves are applications and they function using the data that is compiled in them. The data are the records, but in most large databases they are not easy to delete to meet disposition. It takes an understanding of the way the application works and the value of each object to the whole in order to apply the assigned retention.
