Jon,

If your firmıs policy is to scan case materials to a client-matter folder,
then destroy the hard copy, thereıs no problem.  Printing electronic
documents just so they can be filed in a file room is wasteful of firm
resources (unless a partner specifically wants a hard copy kept in the
file). Many firms now rely solely on electronic versions.  While
litigators may print out copies to use in court, once the trial is over,
those hard copies are destroyed.

I do agree that all offices should be following a single policy; however,
that policy should be one that best serves the firmıs interests for all
locations.
