Over the 26 years I've been on this List, there has been a great ebb and
flow of information provided form numerous sources.... the vast majority of
it is directly related to RECORDS and INFORMATION management practices,
policies and 'current events'.

Over time, we've had a few forays into other subjects, typically referred
to as "off topic" discussions... barbeque and sauces, bacon, music, cars or
whatever... and occasionally, these deteriorated into "range wars", which
were quickly quelled. We even went as far as to setup side groups for
these postings, or at minimum, convinced people to add "Off Topic" or "OT"
as a prefix to the posts.

And a few times, issues have risen that have been relatively political in
nature... leaning towards the Left or Right, but this doesn't happen too
frequently.

The problem is, instead of these remaining "on topic", they tend to wander
into posting of pieces that are much more opinion than fact or
informational. And while I could state MY opinion that this tends to run
one way more than the other, that's not what this post is about.

What it's about is as a long term member of the list, I'd prefer to see the
content provided by members to remain on point... not to stray into the
gray areas of posting EVERY ARTICLE from EVERY SOURCE about a topic,
especially when they wander into the areas of opinion.

If the titles of the "RAIN" items are things like:

"Why couldn’t XYZ have two e-mail accounts on one phone?"
"The misleading XXX spin on XYZs e-mails"
"Why Did ABC Tolerate XYZ’s Use of Secret E-mail?"
"Yes, XYZ Broke the Law"
"Thirteen (or so) questions for XYZ"
"XYZ's Contempt for Transparency"

These don't really sound like "News", they sound like opinion... and most
of the titles are inflammatory in nature. There have been *40* stories
posted on this subject in the past 8 days.

There has been ONE story posted that gave an opposing opinion (yes, it was
an OPINION piece, but it also included a lot of facts and citations of
rules and regs) and it's the ONLY POSTING on the topic that resulted in any
discussion at all... 10 posts from others.

So my request? Can we avoid these tendencies to drift into the political in
the name of "News"? There are 1800+ of us here, I think we're all able to
follow the breadcrumbs once the 'story' breaks, if we so desire.

If there are new FACTS that relate to RECORD and INFORMATION management
practices, by all means.... share them.

I'll put down my bagpipes now.
