Hi Everyone,

If you've ever had a difficult time describing to others the differences between authenticity and integrity, here are a couple of videos where it becomes very evident.

The first is the video of the "Sandra Bland Traffic Stop" which has been authenticated as originating from the dashcam of the Texas Department of Public Safety's arresting officer's car.  The video provides information and evidence from the arrest.  Its authenticity has not been questioned, but if you look closely, especially between 32:32-34:34, you will notice that the video has been looped (you will see the same white car make a left turn repeatedly), but the audio runs smoothly. The second is the video of the "Center For Medical Progress: Video Proves Planned Parenthood Is "Selling Aborted Baby Parts" sting operation. In this one, the authenticity is and the integrity are questionable because a) it was recorded secretly by an anti-abortion group with an agenda, and b) when compared with the unedited, original video, there are at least three crucial edits that reveal the Planned Parenthood official was instead discussing the reimbursement cost for consensual, legal tissue donations.

Very interesting to think about how de-contextualized information with questionable authenticity and integrity can undermine the accuracy of a record or recording!
