Haven't read the entire article, bit/ly links and my system don't play well
together.

I will issue this caution though. I had an issue when my desktop was
replaced with a new systems and my content was moved. I use a nested
folder system to store many of my files to simplify locating content; a
portion of active items are on my desktop, the remainder are on the
organizational server. When 'active use' ceases, content on the desktop is
moved to the server.

In many cases, I receive PDFs and MSOffice documents from others, and it's
not uncommon for some of these to have REALLY LONG file names... sometimes
bumping up against the limits of allowable characters. When the new system
was implemented, I was unaware that the server had changed how it
stores/manages user content and they appended another TWO layers of
'structure' to the path to get to my content.

This resulted in an inability to open, search for, or otherwise access
content stored, and I ended up with 'file name too long to XYZ' messages on
anything I WAS able to find in a search. It seems that Windows (have I
ever told you how much I LOATHE Windows??) includes the entire path name,
including any/all folder structure, as part of your file name.

The result? 4 days worth of work to establish NEW folders on my desktop to
drag content from the server into, then deleting/renaming 'nested folder
names' that I used to logically locate my content to 2-5 character names,
then deleting all folders on the server and THEN re-establishing a new
structure.
