I'm currently reading Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs and Steel" where he addresses this question, and how domino effect of how each successive invention is built upon those that went before. In this scenario, then the best might need to be one of the first: domestication of crops, and domestication of animals (esp. dogs). Without these, writing, electricity, the wheel (all major breakthroughs)and others would not have been possible.

Personally, I think the best invention is the lens. Lenses are used everywhere and in nearly every industry. Cameras, medical devices, satellites, telescopes, microscopes, eyeglasses, telephones, lights, lasers, and on.

Good morning!

Q. What's the best invention that has benefited mankind, in your opinion?

Ans. In my humble opinion, I believe electricity has been THE best invention due to all of the benefits that come to mind:

AC
Heating
Lighting
Machinery operations

But I also enjoy the benefits of natural gas:

Heating
Cooking
Warmth
Fuel for some vehicles
