I've never used document cases, but I would suggest that you compare the
risks, costs, and benefits of the cases versus acid-free folders. At first
blush, it appears you haven't really built a case for document cases - it
sounds like a nice-to-have, but not a necessity.
I would be more concerned about protection from fire, water, vermin, and
other environmental risks. If the cases are of a grade that contribute
significantly to that kind of protection, especially because you're storing
them onsite, then I would say it's worth it. If not, then it may be an
unnecessary expense, and the money would be better spent as a down
payment on a fire-rated cabinet.
