Having worked with a number of document controllers, this is generally specialized and highly focused.  During a project there can literally be hundreds of revisions that are being tracked, as well as transmittal sheets, distribution matrix's.  Depending on workload I would verify the scope of what they are asking and then make a decision on whether you have the bandwidth, or if this fits under RM or not.  My 2 cents.
