Every definition of a "record" I have come across states that records are everything on which a record is recorded - including paper, electronic formats, photographs, clay tablets, etc. Therefore, the Records practitioner(s) (manager, clerk, coordinator, etc.) is responsible for all records created and maintained in their organizations, including electronic. No differentiation between recordkeeping media is made in the RIM and IG professions.

Subject: [RM] Changing Duties of Records Clerk

I work in a mid-size law firm in the Midwest. In our shift to proper Information Governance the duties of our record's clerks are changing. It is becoming obvious to me that a records clerk should not continue to be responsible for handling paper files only. I am looking for information as to a potential job description and/or duties that you expect of your clerks as it relates to electronic records. Thank you for your input.
