Aloha Wayne and Listserv Friends:

Congratulations to the ARMA Calgary Chapter for their 40th Anniversary...

I have a few concerns about what was presented to the Calgary Chapter...

ARMA has "transparency" as one of its core values, yet its members and stakeholders are left "in the dark" in regards to the Association.

1) ARMA has problems...What's new??? What are the problems and the extent of it? Is it self-created? Can it be fixed? Do they need help?
2) Where's the beef? Where are the statistics and reports that lends credence to that finding? What does "relatively equally" mean? Are there any IG professionals? I know of Records Management professionals, but not many IG specific professionals...What are the differences?
3) I don't disagree with Bob Baird on this merits of AIIM and ARMA...Philosophically, they are different organizations, but unfortunately, ARMA is moving more towards AIIM (vendor driven) and it's roots as a "member driven" organization.

As Don Lueders indicated the "chapters" are promoting and reinforcing RIM, whereas ARMA HQ continues to press-on with IG. Is there a disconnect??

Wayne, you're like many of us "seasoned" records managers that have "grown" over the years to address areas beyond the scope of "basic" records management. Whether you call it RIM or IG, it is a part of our job and shows how we've expanded in our reach...I still consider it all record management when it all boils down, despite the "spins" from consultant and vendor-driven folks. As a practitioner and "in the trenches", it’s the level of work expected if you're "managing" records in today's world.

Mahalo and Live Aloha!

Brian
