TOPIC: Global Privacy, Record Erasure and the Right to be Forgotten

This presentation will outline Global Privacy, Record Erasure and the Right to be Forgotten within the entire data lifecycle, from creation to data destruction. It will include details on compliant data erasure around the full universe of information governance needs, including the protection of privacy and right to be forgotten. Attendees will learn practical and simple record data elemental controls to meet erasure requirements for tasks that organizations don’t do well such as erasure of private data in enterprise HR systems, data processing decisions, supervision of privacy rights as they relate to recordkeeping and conflicts in recordkeeping retention requirements. The presenter will detail how to effectively manage privacy, WORM (immutable record and durable media) archive requirements, confidentiality and conflicting retention requirements imposed upon large and unmanageable data volumes when certain data elements must be redacted to meet global privacy or regulatory requirements. The presentation will incorporate specific industry knowledge and leading practices that have led to actionable recommendations for Fortune 100 organizations.

PRESENTER: James Dawson, Director, Privacy, Regulatory Recordkeeping, Strategy and Governance, KPMG, LLC

James Dawson has over 30-years of experience in supporting information governance and regulatory recordkeeping for corporate legal departments, electronic discovery, supervision, surveillance compliance transformation services and related data governance. He has helped firms assess enterprise content management solutions, manage complex information lifecycle issues and navigate the processes and systems to control information assets and meet defensible data reduction for corporate general counsel. James has been responsible for information governance in several industries and verticals including several multi-terabyte data preservations and records management assessments. He has been the lead technical advisor in information governance and privacy on projects for global corporations with multiple record and data privacy control structures, legal archives and placement of certain vital records within private data processes. James has advised counsel on privacy litigation, the remediation of business critical information assets including data credibility, data domicile, data dictionaries, cross-country data sharing and privacy challenges in the “right to be forgotten” within enterprise systems.
