Blake,

When I started here 2.5 years ago we implanted a "mandatory" eCommunications training module that we had access to as a member of the General Counsel Roundtable (GCR). While we heard the usual gripes about having to take more required training, we didn't think a 20-minute training module was really going to affect anyone's productivity. The assumption was that we'd develop one or two other RM training programs that would be required training too. Not!

Well, although the eCommunications training went over very well (we got 98% response), we were shot down by our training committee regarding any additional "required" training. We could develop as many RM training programs as we wanted, except none could be required. We've done that and the response hasn't been as great as we had hoped it would be. I'm still of the opinion that a RM 101 training session ought to be included in our new employee orientation, and that some RM training be required for everyone else at least every two years, but we are not there yet.

Having said all of that, I can kinda sorta understand why additional "required" training didn't go over well here, as we in a heavily regulated industry with too much mandatory training as it is--even for those of us not in the field. The training committee has basically said that unless it is a federal, state, or local requirement, no training will be mandatory.

As to the training programs we do offer, it's mostly classroom style training along with some self-guided presentations on our RM SharePoint site, and I am working on developing content for some CBTs as well. Since we're so spread out w/offices from TX to NY, that's probably the better way to go given how much travel costs have increased in the short time I've been here.

Good luck with your training program!

Thanks.
Earl

Subject: RIM Training & Awareness

Good morning Listserv; has anyone developed and implemented a mandatory
RIM training program for your organization. If so, what type of content
is presented, who is the target audience and what method is used to
provide the training. I am currently working with our HR Development
team to create a mandatory training curriculum program that will be
accessed via our Intranet. I am curious as to how other organizations
have gone about this.

Sincerely
