Dear colleagues,

What a wonderful forum Listserv's are for a profession like ours! Gets the
brain matter in gear and provides divergent, but very useful and practical
alternative to address an issue of professional or business importance.

I have been watching the thread on the subject and it has drawn out numerous
options to address the issue and also highlighted additional areas of
concern.

My quest from the time that I became aware of this potential MONSTER was to
bring this thing out into the open and have discussions on how or if the
matter should be addressed.

If the discussion on this and other Listserv's is any indication I may have
gone some way in fulfilling my aim.

We are all now informed of the article by Eric J Sinrod on The legal
implications of self-destructing e-mail @
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/ericjsinrod/2004-09-22-sinrod_x.htm
and my original article Trojan Horse Programs - March 2004 @
http://www.microfilm.net.au/articles.shtml?Trojan_Horse_Programs .

We now have advice from State Records of New South Wales Recordkeeping in
Brief No. 36 titled Information rights management and recordkeeping of June
2004 and viewable online with appropriate Copyright advice C Copyright
reserved by the Government of NSW, April 2004. All rights reserved. No part
of this publication may be reproduced by any method without the prior
written consent of the State Records Authority of NSW. @

I commend the New South Wales Records Office on being proactive and
addressing this issue in a timely manner.

The irony: Eric advises the following in his article, Prudence also urges
that important e-mail messages worth saving, when possible, should be
printed and placed in appropriate paper files, .

Just when we were moving to an electronic environment for the management of
records and documents with an electronic solution for some (or preferable
all entities) Information rights management "IRM", and or Digital rights
management "DRM" forces us to print out all E-mails, Word, Excel and Power
Point documents and place them on paper files, and or rescan them as .tiff
images and replace them in the EDRM system.

NOT A VERY EFFICIENT, ELEGANT OR DESIRABLE SOLUTION to Uncle Bill's power
over our destiny.

Regards, Laurie
