John asked: "I need to figure out how much paper is in a shelf foot (or
cubic foot box)for scanning purposes."

This is trickier than you may realize. According to Kenneth W. Duckett's
Modern Manuscripts, it is typically 2,800 to 3,000 pages. But, first keep
in mind that a carton of copier paper is about the same size and holds 5,000
sheets and then that the pages may be written on both sides.

Recalling several boxes of the material to be scanned and reviewing it may
not be that bad an idea.
