We are in the process of getting our arms around scanning and indexing
in several areas and would be interested in this virtual barcode system.

Thanks,

Doug

When we were experimenting with Barcodes, we originally tried the
sticker method - taking a bar code and sticking it onto the actual page
which was very time consuming and pages could be missed. We eventually
and is currently still using a virtual bar code system that we add on
the first page of each document, which does not alter the original
document but provides us to link and auto index the images more
efficiently.

1990's. We integrated a program to "electronically bates number" the
scanned images. The first page carried the document number, 123456.000,
each additional page had an appended number for the page, 123456.001.
Didn't mark up my originals, numbered my images for metadata and allowed
for easy retrieval. Wouldn't solve document type recognition, but I
imagine you could run several sets of numbers if you didn't have too
many document types, or you could build a document type code into the
number itself.
