Hello,

I'm a first time poster to this list. I'm the manager of a technical
unit working with the Records Manager and others to implement an EDMS
for our department.

I'm curious about software which can "automatically classify" documents.
Products such as:

Mohomine
http://www.kofax.com/products/mohomine/

iLevel
http://www.ilevelsoftware.com/products/automatictaggingandcategorisation
.htm

Verity
http://www.verity.com/products/dictionary/intelligent-classifier.html

We have a substantial amount of unstructured data, e.g. e-mail and hard
copy correspondence---some of which record agreements, transactions,
etc., which should be added to our OnBase EDMS. The e-mail messages are
the most problematic since subjects tend not to accurately reflect the
contents of the messages, particularly when there's been a flow of back
and forth between parties. Although manual indexing of each document
would be best, it's not feasible in our environment and I'm wondering if
automatic classification systems might assist us in this area.

Questions I have include:

How well do they work---how accurately do they classify
documents?
How do they integrate into existing EDM systems?
What criteria should we be evaluating when considering automatic
classification systems?

Any information would be appreciated. THANKS.

~Sharie
