Hi Glenn,
Thanks for that information - not being familiar with the db structure
of tables "behind the scenes", that would not have occurred to me. That
must be why in the FN user listserv, there are "solutions" to problems
that involve tampering with the SQL tables that always come with the
caveat that FN will not support such direct changes.
I also wonder if that is why a migration from one vendor to another
almost always requires "consulting services".
All that being said, I still feel more secure knowing that someone with
SQL knowledge could probably figure out the scheme if need be and that
we are at least dealing with a product where there are many people able
to support.
Mary

You can still be highly proprietary even if you use SQL. Have a look at
the raw tables in your DBMS and see if you can figure out which name
goes
with which title with which location - even assuming you can find the
right tables at all. There is a very good chance the file title table
won't be called 'titles', and may contain only a list of numbers, not
actual data.
What Peter is after isn't as simple as using Oracle or one of the other
'standard' dbms's.
Cheers

These views are mine alone. They may or may not be those of any
previous or present employers or clients. I don't know. If I'd asked
and they'd agreed, I would have signed it "Bloggs and Co and
Glenn". Or whatever. But I haven't, so I didn't.
