Hello listservers,
The purpose of this email, hence the subject line, is to firstly
introduce myself and in the absence of the listserv archives ask a
question that may already have been asked before.
I'm an Aussie living in Houston for a couple of years (transferred with
husband and kids). I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Records
Management) with a major in Information Systems from Curtin University,
Western Australia, last year as a mature age student. I'm working for
oil and gas company implementing a RM system - hard copy to start with
and electronic module to follow. As yet there are no policies,
procedures, retention etc.
This leads to my question. The company is expanding and is reorganizing
file storage space into offices. They are therefore looking to reduce
paper records by storing offsite and disposing where appropriate. My
question is specifically about paper well logs and core samples.
Can anyone tell me retention periods for these types of information and
what legislation I can link retention periods?
I'd be extremely grateful for any information.
Cheers
Sandra Moo
