The figures I received were the low and the high for a person I described in my previous e-mail. We are currently reviewing our compensation to see if it is comparable to positions in the area.

>I have been asked to compile a salary range for a Records Manager's position in Raleigh, NC. The individual does not have a CRM. They have a MLIS from SUNYA, and 10 years experience. So far the range I have found is $46,000- $71,000 dollars. Do these figures seem correct given the person's qualifications?

It all depends. Was the range developed from current salaries in the Raleigh NC area? Did you also get a copy of the job description and duties for each relevant salary?

Is this to justify a salary increase or to hire a new individual. If to justify a salary increase you would want to document the change in duties and responsibilities since the initial hire date. If the salary is to hire a new individual is the pool of candidates in the area sufficiently large? Will the salary offered attract the type of candidate you desire?

All salaries are relative when taken out of context. $71K may be a great salary in Raleigh, but in NYC in may be a different matter.

What are the qualifications, years in place, responsibilitie, etc for the individual being paid $71K versus the individual being paid $46K.

The term "records manager" is applied to loosely to a wide variety of positions.

just some rambling thoughts
