During the big event this week you intellectual freedom advocates
might ask at our Boston Public Library for public archives of the BPL
itself.

You will experience the denial, delay when asking. You will experience
the failure of the BPL reference desk when you are referred upstairs
and told your reference enquiry must be made a public records request
that is in fact against the Massachusetts state archives and records
management practices. A reference enquiry would ordinarily be given
the professional attention of reference desk librarians.

Why is this an important matter. For one thing librarians and other
library workers have been denied access to public information about
their very same cities' public libraries. Unions labor relations
advocates have been denied access to public information about
their very same cities' public libraries.
