LOCATION:  Albany, NY

SALARY:  $41,871 (Leads to a maximum salary of $52,114 based on annual
performance advances.)

The New York State Archives is seeking to fill the position of
Archives
and Records Management Specialist 2 in the Government Records Services
(GRS) Unit. The GRS Unit has primary responsibilities within the State
Archives for the delivery of records management services to State
agencies and local governments across the State, and serves those
customers from nine (9) regional offices, the State Records Center,
and
the Cultural Education Center.
The position will work on electronic records and micrographics service
development, and will provide detailed guidance and technical advice
in
electronic records, imaging, and micrographics to local governments
and
State agencies. The incumbent will assist in the development of State
Archives services related to electronic records management and
micrographics, develop electronic records management and micrographics
publications and workshops, present workshops across the state, carry
out research in emerging electronic records technologies, and provide
advice on electronic records and micrographics to field staff and
government customers. The incumbent will also gather, record, analyze
and report data reflecting GRS effectiveness in the delivery of
archives
and records management services, and the outcome of that delivery upon
customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a master's degree in
history, government, business or public administration, political
science, American studies, library science, information science, or
archival administration. In addition, candidates must have at least
two
years of professional experience in which the preponderance of duties
involves one or more of the following:

A. analyzing or appraising records and information systems to develop
recordkeeping and/or records retention plans for an institution,
governmental body, or corporation;
B. providing education, training, grant-in-aid, or direct technical
assistance services in records management and/or archives;
C. developing or implementing guidelines, standards, policies and
procedures concerning records management and/or archival
administration;
D. evaluating available information technology to support
recordkeeping
needs and requirements of an institution, governmental body, or
corporation;
E. acquiring, controlling, preserving, making available, or promoting
use of archival records.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This appointment will be provisional, which
means that the incumbent will need to take the appropriate civil
service
exam in the future and score in the top three in order to retain the
position.
