Well, one thing that limits the usefulness of listservs is just replying
as a way of starting a new thread, without changing the subject line
(grin).

I find most listservs very useful indeed, not only because I can tap into
a vast resource, but also, as Chris said, RMers lead lonely lives and this
is a way of keeping the old grey cells jumping. Professional dialogue is
sadly lacking. Local monthly meetings of your RM society (ARMA, RMAA or
whatever), reading the professional journals etc help a bit but are less
than interactive. As a manager, you can't always discuss some things with
your staff, and your boss is probably not an RMer, so tossing around
questions and ideas on the meaning of RM life is difficult. It is so very
important to keep thinking. It's great that it's hard to stay on top of
most of the active listservers, let alone ahead of them, even in Australia
where our time zone means we are always a day ahead of all the world
except (sob!) New Zealand.

Cheers

Glenn

These views are mine alone. They may or may not be those of any
previous or present employers or clients. I don't know. If I'd asked
and they'd agreed, I would have signed it "Bloggs and Co and
Glenn". Or whatever. But I haven't, so I didn't.
